Can you give examples of how the investment management percentage fee works?
Fee tiers are applied marginally. For example,
- A household with $937,500 under management would pay $4,500 on the first $500,000 and 0.8% on the remaining $437,500 for a total of $4,500 + $3,500 = $8,000.
- A household with $2 million total in all their accounts under management would pay $4,500 on the first $500,000, 0.8% on the next $500,000, and 0.7% on the next $1 million for a total of $4,500 + $4,000 + $7,000 = $15,500.

Okay, I get how the percentages work but what are they applied to? Does that include my workplace retirement account?
We include all accounts that Your Best Path Financial Planning manages for you directly through our custodian, Altruist. This typically includes taxable brokerage accounts, trusts, and IRAs. We typically exclude 401(k)s at your current employer and 529s but will still advise on those even if we can’t manage them for you.
